Shifting The Tone Of Public Debate

I'm pitching two different shows

Happy Hour is apolitical with a focus on culture

LOGLINE: Call Her Daddy with a brain.

BASIS is more news-oriented

LOGLINE: A gamified version of Real Time with the informality of The Joe Rogan Experience.

Each show features the same general structure

A 4-way conversation moderated with the intent of providing diverse thought. Voices from across the generational, economic, and demographic spectrum having a respectful exchange of ideas.

What's different about this?

Prior to our discussion, we form "the basis": A set of facts or ideas all panelists agree on so we're starting with the same reference point. Everybody's there to share their perspective and listen, as opposed to trying to "own" the other side. It's a conversation rather than a debate. We keep track of points to disincentivize rudeness and pivoting.

The Goal

To shift the tone of public debate away from the current toxic hysteria; an antidote to cable news yelling matches and social media echo chambers.

Anybody making cogent points that resonate with regular people, I want this program to be their platform.

About Me

I founded the production company Riotmaker eleven years ago. We make broadcast commercials for Amazon, Ring, Lowe's, Home Depot, Lending Tree, ZipRecruiter, and others. I'm 34 and recently moved to Austin, TX after living in Los Angeles for 9 years.

Why This is Important to Me

The polarization proselytized by cable news now permeates beyond social media and into our daily lives. I hate it. Shifting the tone of public debate so that we can all freely communicate across the lines dividing us isn't just timely, it's essential. While everyone else exploits division, the lane for encouraging unification is wide open.
